Checking In - The Portland Phase

We are now at our 3 month mark in our adventure. Time is flying by! I decided to see what all of us are feeling at this point by asking the same questions to each of us:

1). How do you feel about our trip so far?

2). What has been the worst thing so far about our trip?

3). What has been the best thing so far about our trip?

4). If you could change one thing so far in our adventure what would it be?

I took time to ask each of my family members separately. My husband, a contrarian, thought my questions were too vague, and I think, deliberately set about to irritate me. Here's the best I could get from his answers:

Mark:

Question 1: How do you feel about our trip so far?

It's going as well as I expected. If I had to rate it, I'd give it a 9.

Question 2: What has been the worst thing so far about our trip?

2). I don't have a worst thing. Maybe being sick... that wasn't fun.

Question 3: What has been the best thing so far about our trip?

3). The more relaxed lifestyle.

Question 4: If you could change one thing so far in our adventure what would it be?

4). I wish I was taller.. About the trip, I wish we had an extra bathroom.

Rocco:

Question 1: How do you feel about our trip so far?

1). I like it. I like that we're travelling. Yet again, we did have to leave a lot of stuff. I'd give it a seven out of ten.

Question 2: What has been the worst thing so far about our trip?

2). Homeschooling. I don't like not interacting with other kids, and I don't like this style of learning. I'm better at listening and learning than just reading it for myself. I'd rather be back at my school, but we're here and I'm happy.

Question 3: What has been the best thing so far about our trip?

3). Can I give you top three? 1) Horseback riding, 2) The Park, 3) Closeness of the family

Question 4: If you could change one thing so far in our adventure what would it be?

4). I wish that I would get that Hoverboard!!!!! Nothing really..... However I do want to go to the town of Reinoso in Spain.

Abby:

Question 1: How do you feel about our trip so far?

1). So far it's been good, but more emotional than I expected. I really am missing the routine of my life back home, and it's made me more resistant to the changes than I expected.

Question 2: What has been the worst thing so far about our trip?

2). Dealing with the pain in my hip and the sheer exhaustion I've had has been difficult, because it's not normal for me. I'm used to having energy and being very active.

Question 3: What has been the best thing so far about our trip?

3). Best thing has been being with my family and really enjoying time together each day. Also, it's been good to take a step back and realize that I don't want to continue being crazy busy all the time. That being said, I also realize that kids necessitate a certain level of extra activity.

Question 4: If you could change one thing so far in our adventure what would it be?

4). I would have preferred to have some recovery time between moving out of our home and leaving for Oregon. I was really exhausted and it has caused me to have a tough time adjusting to life here in Portland. I'm hoping going forward I will have a more positive attitude.

Zara:

Question 1: How do you feel about our trip so far?

1). It is fun and exciting, but I'm sad that we are going to be leaving all the new friends we have met.

Question 2: What has been the worst thing so far about our trip?

2). Rocco. He bothers me, and takes my Smushmellow!

Question 3: What has been the best thing so far about our trip?

3). Having fun, going to the park, playing with the dogs and climbing trees!

Question 4: If you could change one thing so far in our adventure what would it be?

4). I wouldn't want to leave our friends.

After going through the entire family, my husband decided to revamp his answers. Here is his second response:

Mark, take 2:

Question 1: How do you feel about our trip so far?

1). (no change in response)

Question 2: What has been the worst thing so far about our trip?

2). What I thought would be the worst thing was a feeling a sense of helplessness with my businesses, however that hasn't been the case. I would say the worst part was when you guys went to Phoenix.

Question 3: What has been the best thing so far about our trip?

3). It's so tough...... becoming a resident of Portland, the vibe and becoming a resident of the city. It's like I get to sample the best part of Portland.

Question 4: If you could change one thing so far in our adventure what would it be?

4). Hard question.... I would have had more friends come up to visit.
